How badly did it hurt getting this done because I have been looking at making my Prince albert into an appy, but I have heard some bad things about them.

No pain whatsoever. Key is to use a barbell just slightly bigger than the needle to make a tight fit and eliminate most of the bleeding. If you are concerned about pain, apply some Topicaine Gel about 15 min before you do the piercing.
